The Ethiopian Heritage Society in North America (EHSNA), in collaboration with Abugida Language and Culture Center (አቡጊዳ የቋንቋ እና የባህል ተቋም), is honored to host the 129th anniversary celebration of the Victory of Adwa—a historic moment that symbolizes Ethiopian resilience, unity, and triumph over colonial aggression.
This year’s commemoration will take place on Saturday, March 1, 2025, at 1:00 PM, at 9350 Braddock RD, Springfield VA, 22015. Themed “Adwa: The Legacy of African Freedom,” this event will highlight the significance of the Battle of Adwa, where Ethiopian forces, under the leadership of Emperor Menelik II and Empress Taytu Betul, decisively defeated the invading Italian army on March 1, 1896. This victory not only safeguarded Ethiopia’s sovereignty but also inspired movements for independence across Africa.
