WASHINGTON, DC – Birtukan Mideksa, the former opposition leader who is living in the United States, would appear as the guest of honor at the Ethiopian Heritage Society in North America (EHSNA) festival that would be held here from June 30 to July 3rd, a source told Ethiomedia on Sunday.
The Heritage Society had extended the invitation to Birtukan at a February 8th Board of Directors meeting. The Board picked up Birtukan as its guest of honor based on “her selfless sacrifices in promoting human rights, democracy, and the rule of law in Ethiopia and her leadership quality, and ability to inspire the future of Ethiopia, the youth.”
The Heritage Society’s first festival is expected to be a display of various programs, ranging from exhibiting exotic items of traditional Ethiopia to its exquisite cuisine to top performances, songs and dances by Ethiopian artistes that would converge on the nation’s capital from different states.
EHSNA says in a statement that its primary mission and vision is to promote and preserve the rich heritage and traditions of our Ethiopian ancestors while also embracing diversity and collaboration and encouraging Excellence within our community. EHSNA seeks to develop a strong link among the new generation of Ethiopians born in the Diaspora, and to introduce our historical and cultural heritage to the Larger Community in our newly adopted country.
